An honest word about the famous ones

Delilah's in Lincoln Park is a legend: a whiskey-and-punk-rock dive running since 1993 with one of the best whiskey lists in America, and it genuinely tops the local singles-bar rankings because it's the rare bar where strangers actually talk at the rail. Go, but go for the right reason: it's a conversation dive full of regulars, not a pickup scene, and it rewards people who like the room itself. The Holiday Club, Uptown's retro "Swingers Mecca" and a 25-year institution, closed in May 2026 when its lease ran out; the owner has said he's looking for a new location, so check before you cross town on an old listicle.

How to work a bar in this city

• Golden hour beats midnight. The patios and rooftops do their mingling from 5 to 9. Late night, the rooms close into groups.
• The bar rail is the social seat. Tables are for dates; the rail is for meeting people. Delilah's and the hotel bars especially.
• One circuit per night. Pick River North, Old Town, or the Milwaukee Avenue spine and stay on foot. Crosstown mid-night moves kill momentum.
